Animal Realism

Black & Grey Realism
Gwen's strongest area — monochromatic realism relies entirely on tonal variation to create depth and form. No colour to compensate for structural weaknesses: every graduation of grey has to be exact.

A large full realism sleeve is a multi-session project, typically 3–5 sessions of 6–8 hours each. The best references are high-resolution photographs with strong contrast and clear lighting — ideally a single well-lit source, not mixed light. For portrait work, a full-face photo with sharp focus on the eyes works best. For animals, detail shots of the specific texture area (fur, feathers, scales) are as useful as the full-body reference. Gwen will review your reference and advise whether it's suitable, or suggest adaptations, during consultation.
All tattoos fade over time — but proper aftercare dramatically slows the process. Sun exposure is the biggest enemy of realism work, and Thailand's intense UV means this matters more here than in temperate climates. Pain is determined primarily by placement, not style. However, realism tattoos often take longer than simpler styles, which means extended sessions can be more fatiguing. Multiple passes over the same area — common in realism shading — can increase sensitivity. Gwen paces sessions to allow breaks and monitors comfort throughout.
