Cover-Up Specialist · Pattaya, Thailand · English Booking
Not every tattoo tells the story you want it to. Gwen specialises in cover-up tattoos — transforming old, faded, or regretted ink into custom artwork you'll want to show off. Based at a private studio in Pattaya, with 16+ years of experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Full English booking via WhatsApp.
Why It Matters
A cover-up is not the same as a regular tattoo. The existing ink fights the new design — and without the right combination of technique, scale, and placement knowledge, the result can be worse than the original. Cover-up work demands both artistic judgement and technical mastery.
Fine Art Training
Gwen's B.F.A. in Fine Arts means she approaches cover-ups as a design challenge — using contrast, form, and composition to make the old tattoo disappear into the new one. Not all tattoo artists have that foundation.
Honest Consultation
Some cover-ups need laser pre-fading first. Gwen will tell you exactly what's possible, what size the new piece needs to be, and whether a single session or multiple sessions are realistic — before any deposit is taken.
Experience with Dark Ink
Old black ink is the hardest challenge in cover-up work. With 16+ years of experience and hundreds of successful cover-ups completed, Gwen understands exactly how to work with — not against — the existing pigment.
Custom Design Only
Every cover-up is drawn from scratch around the shape, placement, and character of the original tattoo. No flash. No templates. The new design is created specifically for your skin and your story.
The Artist
Gwen has been tattooing professionally for over 16 years, with a significant portion of that work dedicated to cover-ups and transformations. What began as a technical challenge became a specialisation — she now considers cover-ups among the most rewarding work she does.
Her academic background in fine arts gives her an advantage that most tattoo artists don't have: the ability to see a bad tattoo as a composition problem, and design a solution. The goal is never to simply hide the old ink — it's to make the new piece so strong that the original becomes irrelevant.
Gwen trained at Celebrity Ink and Ink.inc before establishing her private studio in Pattaya. She now works exclusively from that studio, with a schedule built around larger, more complex pieces — including multi-session cover-ups and sleeves.

The Process
Every cover-up begins with an honest assessment — not a sales pitch. Gwen will tell you exactly what's achievable, what it will take, and what to expect from the healed result.
1 — Consultation
Send a photo of your existing tattoo via WhatsApp or Instagram. Gwen will assess the ink density, age, placement, and size — and give you an honest assessment of what's possible and what the new piece needs to look like.
2 — Laser Pre-Fading (If Needed)
Very dark or dense old tattoos often benefit from laser fading first — it dramatically increases the range of design options and allows a lighter, more detailed cover-up. Gwen will advise whether fading is worth doing before booking.
3 — Custom Design
The cover-up design is drawn from scratch specifically around the shape and placement of the existing tattoo. Gwen presents the design digitally before the session — adjustments are made until the design is exactly right.
4 — The Session
Sessions take place at Gwen's private studio in Pattaya. Single-use sterile needles, fully sanitised workspace, and complete English communication throughout. Aftercare guidance provided specifically for Thailand's tropical climate.
Recommended Styles
Not every style works for every cover-up. The choice depends on the ink density, size, and placement of the original tattoo. Gwen will recommend the best approach during consultation.
Realism
Dark, photo-realistic imagery — portraits, animals, nature — uses shadow and depth to fully absorb old geometric or text tattoos. One of the most effective cover-up styles for medium-density ink.
Blackwork
Large areas of solid or graphic black ink can completely overwhelm older tattoos. Patterns, botanicals, and illustrative blackwork are ideal for high-density or very dark original pieces.
Fine Line & Botanical
For lighter, older, or partially faded tattoos, fine-line botanical designs can elegantly incorporate the original piece into flowing organic shapes — minimising the "cover" feel entirely.
Abstract & Neo-Traditional
Abstract forms and bold neo-traditional designs use size and composition to make old ink disappear. Particularly effective for text, dates, and small tribal pieces.

Client Reviews
"I had a poorly done tribal piece from my early 20s that I hated. Gwen turned it into a stunning floral realism sleeve panel. She was completely honest about what was achievable before I paid a cent — and the result is beyond anything I imagined."
"I came in with a dark, badly done text tattoo and left with a beautiful botanical piece. Gwen recommended I do one laser session first, which I did — and it made all the difference. The consultation was completely honest and the result is incredible."
"My old tattoo was embarrassing — I'd hidden it for years. Gwen designed a cover-up from scratch that turned it into actual art. Professional, private studio, full English consultation. The best decision I made in Pattaya."
Questions & Answers
Almost any tattoo can be covered — but the result depends on the density, age, colour, and placement of the original piece. Dark, solid black work is the most challenging, often requiring laser pre-fading first. Faded, old, or lightly coloured tattoos are usually much easier to work with. Gwen will assess your specific tattoo during consultation and give you an honest answer before any design work or deposit.
Not always — but for heavily saturated or solid black tattoos, laser fading can significantly expand the range of design options and allow for a more detailed, natural-looking cover-up. Gwen will advise whether fading is genuinely worth doing based on your specific tattoo. She works with local laser clinics in Pattaya and can recommend the most suitable option depending on your timeline and budget.
As a general rule, a cover-up tattoo needs to be at least 30–50% larger than the original to give enough design space to fully incorporate and disguise the existing ink. For very dense or dark tattoos, a larger size difference may be necessary. Gwen will give you a specific size recommendation for your tattoo during the initial consultation.
Yes, but it requires the right approach. Dark black ink cannot be covered by colour alone — the new design needs to incorporate and absorb the black into its own aesthetic. Realism with deep shadows, blackwork, or bold neo-traditional designs are the most effective approaches for dense black ink. Laser pre-fading before the cover-up is often recommended for heavily saturated black pieces.
The best style for a cover-up depends on the original tattoo. Realism and blackwork are the most versatile for dense old ink. Botanical fine-line works well over light, faded pieces. Neo-traditional and abstract designs can effectively cover text, dates, and tribal patterns. Gwen will recommend the most suitable style based on the specific challenges of your tattoo — not based on what's currently popular.
Cover-up tattoos are priced by size, complexity, and the difficulty of the existing piece — not by a flat hourly rate. Because every cover-up is a custom design built around a specific problem, pricing is provided after the initial consultation. A 30% deposit of the final agreed price confirms the booking, deducted from the total on the day of your session.
Smaller cover-ups and lighter original tattoos can often be completed in a single session. Larger pieces, or those covering dense black ink, may require two or more sessions with healing time in between — typically 4–8 weeks per session. Gwen will give you a realistic session estimate during consultation based on the size and complexity of the work.
